Insurance Companies Warn of Fake Rental Guarantee Scam on Social Media Platforms Online

Insurance companies in Uruguay are sounding the alarm about a scam targeting renters. Fake ads are circulating on social media, messaging apps, and online platforms, promising rental guarantees with no requirements. These ads claim that insurance companies can provide guarantees even if you’re on a credit blacklist.

The ads often use real company logos and names to appear legitimate. They demand a upfront payment for the guarantee. However, once the payment is made, the scammers either disappear or provide fake documents.

The Insurance Companies Association is warning people that these ads are false. Legitimate insurance companies don’t offer guarantees without checking a person’s credit history. The association advises anyone receiving such an offer to verify it with their trusted insurance provider or broker.

Red Flags to Watch Out For

  • Ads promising guarantees with no requirements or checks
  • Demands for upfront payments
  • Use of real company logos and names to appear legitimate
  • Lack of contact after payment is made or provision of fake documents

The Insurance Companies Association is urging people to be cautious and to report any suspicious ads to the relevant authorities.
