A regular school day took a sudden, frightening turn when the roof of a vocational school in Indonesia collapsed. Students and teachers ran for their lives as the structure gave way above them. Dozens of people ended up hurt.
Video clips shared widely show the sheer panic. Students ran through second-floor hallways, trying to escape the falling debris. The building quickly filled with dust and smoke. Outside, a large crowd of worried students and teachers gathered on the school’s sports field.
More footage from inside the school shows the collapsed roof resting on student desks and chairs. Reports say at least four classrooms suffered damage during the incident.
The collapse happened around 9:20 AM local time. Most students were in their classrooms when it occurred. Many first thought it was an earthquake, adding to the confusion and terror.
Local media reported that at least 35 students were injured and taken to a hospital for care. Officials are now investigating to find out what caused the roof to fall.
