Moi Guiquita, an activist and influencer from the Ecuadorian Amazon, has been eliminated from “La Isla: Desafío Extremo.” His departure followed a final duel against fellow Águilas team member José María Galeano. This marks the second contestant from the Águilas team and the first male to be eliminated from the reality competition.
The challenge required contestants to balance basketballs on a platform. They carefully guided them along an undulating path to dunk them into a wooden and metal cylinder. Galeano completed the task successfully, leading to Guiquita’s automatic elimination.
Fellow contestants offered their embraces and goodbyes. Fans praised Guiquita’s demeanor, with one user commenting, “He was one of the best: quiet, discreet, serious and a good competitor.”
Guiquita reflected on his experience, stating, “Being here has left me with a lot of experiences. I came here from the jungle, and living with other people has been an evolution as a human being.” He added, “La Isla has given me a strong lesson to go out into the world and continue learning other things.”
Approximately 30 years old, Guiquita is a Waorani digital creator. He was born and raised in the Ecuadorian Amazon, where his heritage is rooted in a Waorani mother and a Kichwa father. He grew up immersed in ancestral knowledge.
Guiquita gained prominence in 2020 through YouTube videos documenting daily life in the jungle. He has since become a significant environmental activist on social media, reaching millions of followers. His participation in “La Isla: Desafío Extremo” further amplified his voice as a representative of the Amazon.
He is also the founder of the Waponi Amazon Project. This initiative focuses on preserving the ecosystem and promoting indigenous art through WaponiArt. Moi communicates in Wao terero, his native language, and collaborates with international environmental movements. He is also connected to activist Helena Gualinga.
Guiquita is the sixth contestant to be eliminated from the show. Last week, Mexican-American singer Helen Ochoa from the Panteras team withdrew due to medical reasons, as announced by host Héctor Suárez Gomis.
“La Isla: Desafío Extremo” features teams such as Panteras and Águilas. The Tiburones team has already been dissolved.
Weekly challenges determine captaincies, immunities, and other rewards. Eliminations are decided by participant votes. The ultimate victor will win a prize of $200,000.
The show airs on Telemundo Monday through Friday and Sunday at 7 PM/6c. Episodes are also available on its official app and the Peacock streaming service.
