Awards and Recognition
The International Cricket Council has announced its annual awards, recognizing outstanding performances by players in the year 2024. The awards were presented in both men’s and women’s categories, with three Indian players winning major awards.
Notable Winners
Jasprit Bumrah, India’s star fast bowler, won the prestigious ICC Cricketer of the Year Award, also known as the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy. Bumrah had previously been awarded the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year. Arshdeep Singh, another Indian player, was named the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year, while Smriti Mandhana, an Indian women’s cricketer, won the ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award. Mandhana had an exceptional year, scoring 747 runs in 13 matches at an average of over 57.
Historic Win
Amelia Kerr, a New Zealand all-rounder, created history by becoming the first Kiwi player to win the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year award, also known as the Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy. Kerr had an outstanding year, performing exceptionally well in all three formats and playing a crucial role in New Zealand’s T20 World Cup title win in 2024.
