  • Captain Rohit Sharma gave Iyer the T20 cap.
  • Iyer’s role in the India team will be that of an all-rounder

All-rounder Venkatesh Iyer made his debut for the India team in the opening match of the three-match T20I series against New Zealand. Looking ahead to the team’s debut in India, Iyer said that he would try to take into account all that coach Rahul Dravid taught in the ‘dressing room’ of the Indian team.

Venkatesh, who performed brilliantly in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year, has been inducted into the T20 national team. Being a fast bowling all-rounder, his presence is expected to put pressure on Hardik Pandya, the team’s first choice, to show himself at all times.

“How we learn things will depend on what we are asked to do,” he said. I have not brought anything to my mind, so whatever is taught, I will learn it that way. Captain Rohit Sharma has given him some great tricks and it was definitely a special moment.
