  • Shubman Gill came out after scoring 17 runs.
  • James Anderson caught by Crowley
  • Started the innings with Cheteshwar Pujara

The condition of the Indian team is not good in the fifth test match between India and England. Batting after losing the toss on the first day of the ongoing test at Edgbaston, Team India lost their top three wickets at 64. In Rohit Sharma’s absence, Cheteshwar Pujara was sent to open the innings along with Shubman Gill. Gill played some brilliant quick shots, but was unable to continue his tackles. James Anderson caught him in the slip and walked. Gill faced 24 balls before being ejected and scored 17 runs with the help of four fours.

It is worth noting that after KL Rahul was out of the match due to injury, Gill was given the opportunity to start. But Gill failed to capitalize on this opportunity. Former India coach Ravi Shastri also questioned the way Gill was sacked and reprimanded him. Shastri while commenting said that he has to bring discipline in his game. It wasn’t a shot and he himself would be disappointed by it. It is a limit field but you have to know the importance of the wicket.

Gill looked good touch and hit some good shots during his innings, but on the second ball of the seventh he hit Anderson’s outgoing ball and Crowley caught him on the second slip. Shastri said that when he was prepared and everything was going in his favor, that shot made no sense. It wasn’t even a shot.

Former England cricketers Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain also expressed discontent at the way Shubman was sacked. He said Gill could have easily dropped the ball and was doing so at first.

Speaking of Gill’s performance against England, he scored 17, 0, 15*, 11, 14, 0, 50, 29 in the last eight innings, including today’s match. In this, half a century of him has come only once with the bat.
