Islamabad: Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan attacked his political rivals Bhutto and the Sharif family, accusing them of promoting corruption and ruining Pakistan. In an interview with the Al Jazeera news channel broadcast on Saturday by Pakistan Television (PTV), Khan said Pakistan was rich in resources but was misused by the Bhutto and Sharif families.
‘PML-N and PPP are dynastic parties’
Khan, who heads the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, attacked former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s party, the Pakistan Nawaz Muslim League (PML-N) and the late leader Benazir Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), saying that these are dynastic parties that ‘Corruption is the reason behind the problems that the people of the country face today’. He said that corruption was the greatest evil and reiterated his old idea that the rich in developing countries are giving all resources to Western countries by making their people poor.
‘The government is fighting with 2 very rich families’
According to the ‘Geo News’ story, Khan said that his government wants Pakistan to become a prosperous country and is fighting against two very wealthy families. Khan said: ‘Corruption ruins the country. Poor countries are poor not because they have no resources, but because their leadership is corrupt. Former Prime Minister Sharif, currently living in London in connection with his treatment, faces corruption charges in Pakistan. Asif Ali Zardari, husband of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, also faces corruption charges.
‘… then I will carry out a transparent investigation myself’
“If ministers are accused of corruption, I will conduct a transparent investigation myself,” said the prime minister. Khan, a cricket turned politician, said that during his long stay in Britain, he understood very well the political system of the Western world and has always criticized the politics of Western powers. Khan said his government will raise the Kashmir issue in all forums. India has always rejected all references to “Jammu and Kashmir” made by Pakistan and maintains that it is an “integral and indivisible” part of India. India has repeatedly asked Pakistan not to interfere in the country’s internal affairs.
‘America should help Afghanistan’
Expressing concern about the Afghan crisis, Khan said the people of the neighboring country are starving and the United States should help them. “No Afghan was involved in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, yet the United States attacked Afghanistan,” he said. I don’t know what the United States wanted to achieve in Afghanistan. In the name of war he occupied the country for 20 years. If the goal was only to eliminate al Qaeda, it was achieved in two years. Khan said that if Afghanistan succumbs to uncertainty, Pakistan will also have to face the consequences, as the two countries share a 2,600-kilometer-long border.
