The 2025 Champions Trophy has finally come to a close, with India emerging victorious after defeating New Zealand in the tournament’s final, securing their third Champions Trophy title. Throughout the tournament, several players made significant contributions to their teams, and now that the competition has concluded, the ICC has announced its Team of the Tournament. Notably, five Indian players have been included in this prestigious lineup. However, in a somewhat surprising move, Rohit Sharma, the captain who led India to the championship, has not been included in the ICC’s team.
The ICC has selected 11 players for its Team of the Tournament, with Rachin Ravindra and Ibrahim Zadran chosen as the opening pair. Zadran’s outstanding century against England, which helped his team secure a win, was a highlight of the tournament. Meanwhile, Rachin Ravindra finished as the tournament’s top run-scorer. At the third position is Virat Kohli, who played an incredible innings against Pakistan, while Shreyas Iyer has been placed at the fourth spot. Iyer was India’s top scorer in the tournament, with 243 runs.
KL Rahul has been chosen as the wicketkeeper-batsman at the fifth position, thanks to his two half-centuries that yielded 140 runs throughout the tournament. Glenn Phillips of New Zealand takes the sixth spot. The Afghan all-rounder, Azmatullah Omarzai, has also been included in the team, recognizing his impressive performance with both bat and ball in the Champions Trophy. For spin bowling, Mitchell Santner and Varun Chakravarthy have been selected. As for pace bowling, the team features Mohammad Shami and Matt Henry. Notably, the ICC has appointed Santner as the team’s captain.
The composition of the ICC’s Team of the Tournament is interesting, as it only includes players from three teams: India, New Zealand, and Afghanistan. There are no players from other participating teams like Australia, England, South Africa, Pakistan, or Bangladesh. The final lineup consists of Rachin Ravindra, Ibrahim Zadran, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Glenn Phillips, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mitchell Santner (captain), Mohammad Shami, Matt Henry, and Varun Chakravarthy. This selection reflects the outstanding performances of these players during the Champions Trophy, acknowledging their contributions to the excitement and competitiveness of the tournament.
