Israel has received the names of three people kidnapped during the October 7, 2023, attack by an Islamist movement, which led to the war in the Gaza Strip. All three individuals are men. The first is Ohad Ben Ami, a 56-year-old German-Israeli who was kidnapped along with his wife, Raz Ben Ami. Raz was released after 50 days of captivity, and the couple is from Kibutz Beeri, located on the border with Gaza.
Eli Sharabi, 53, is another kidnapped individual who lost his children and wife in the attack by Hamas in Kibutz Beeri. The authorities have confirmed that his brother, Yossi, who was also captured, had been killed, and Hamas has his body in their possession. The third person is Or Levy, 34, who was captured after seeking refuge from the Nova Festival. His wife, Einav, who was with him at the time of the kidnapping, was killed, leaving behind a two-year-old son.
The Oenegé Club of Palestinian Prisoners has reported that these individuals will be exchanged for 183 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons. This announcement comes amid uncertainty surrounding the exchange, following comments made by Donald Trump. The US president had proposed taking control of the Palestinian territory and displacing its population to neighboring countries to facilitate reconstruction. Trump stated on Friday that there is no “hurry” to implement his proposal, which has generated significant criticism.
Indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel regarding the second phase of their agreement began on Tuesday in Qatar, one of the three mediating countries, along with the United States and Egypt, according to a spokesman for the Palestinian movement. This stage is expected to lead to the release of all hostages and ultimately bring an end to the war in Gaza.
