Hamas Releases Israeli Hostage Video; Netanyahu Labels Propaganda; Families Urge Talks

The world bore witness today to a grim reminder of a protracted conflict. Hamas released a video featuring two Israeli men, Guy Gilboa-Dalal and Alon Ohel, held captive in Gaza. The footage, dated August 28, 2025, shows these individuals who were abducted from the Nova music festival during the cross-border attack on October 7, 2023.

In the video, Guy Gilboa-Dalal can be seen inside a car, which he claimed was in Gaza City. He made an emotional plea for his release and shared a distressing detail: eight other captives were with him. For Alon Ohel, this video marked his first public appearance since his abduction, roughly 700 days ago. It was a stark visual of an enduring crisis.

Families of the hostages and human rights groups quickly condemned the video. They called it a propaganda tool designed to manipulate emotions. This ongoing situation is a source of deep frustration. They estimate about 48 Israelis are still held in Gaza, with only around 20 believed to still be alive. Families are pressuring the government to return to the negotiation table. They urge leaders to use any offers from mediators to strike a deal for a hostage exchange.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with the families of the two hostages featured in the video. He firmly stated that the war would end immediately if Hamas agreed to release all captives. Netanyahu dismissed the video as pure propaganda, asserting that such tactics would not deter Israel from its ultimate goal of bringing everyone home. Meanwhile, Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s far-right National Security Minister, took a more aggressive stance, calling for the full occupation of Gaza to secure the release of all hostages.

Beyond the pleas and political statements, the human cost continues to mount. According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 64,300 Palestinians since the October 7, 2023 attack. Tragically, 376 of these deaths were due to starvation and severe malnutrition. This included three individuals who perished within just the last 24 hours.
