Gunman on Motorcycle Kills Mexico City Mayor’s Advisor and Secretary

A brazen attack in broad daylight has shaken Mexico City. A gunman on a motorcycle opened fire, killing two high-ranking officials: the personal secretary and an advisor to the city’s mayor. The shooting occurred on Paseo de la Reforma, a major street that cuts through the heart of the city.

Mayor Clara Brugada condemned the attack, calling it a direct assault on her administration. She vowed that those responsible would face punishment, saying “there will be no impunity.” An investigation is underway, with authorities reviewing security footage to identify the perpetrator.

The victims were Simena Guzman, the mayor’s personal secretary, and Jose Munoz, an advisor. The motive behind the killings is still unclear, but the incident has sent shockwaves through the city.

President Claudia Sheinbaum, a close ally of Mayor Brugada, offered her support and promised a thorough investigation. She noted that the suspects fled the scene on a motorcycle and assured the public that the government would provide full support to the mayor.

Omar Garcia Harfuch, the city’s police chief, took to social media to express his condolences and outrage. He promised that the attack would not go unpunished, saying “we will not allow this cowardly attack to go without consequences.” Garcia Harfuch himself was the target of an assassination attempt in 2020, when he was ambushed by a gang in the city. He survived the attack, which killed three others.

The incident highlights the ongoing struggle with violence in Mexico City, where gangs and organized crime groups often target government officials and law enforcement. As the investigation unfolds, the city remains on high alert, with many calling for increased security measures to protect public officials and citizens alike.
