The new Chespirito bioseries, ‘Chespirito, sin querer queriendo,’ has shined a light on Graciela Fernández, the first wife of Roberto Gómez Bolaños. The series shows how Graciela never sought fame from her husband’s career. She seemed to have little interest in joining tours or television events.
When Graciela and Chespirito parted ways, even years before their legal divorce, she chose to step completely out of the public eye. Because of this, very few interviews or statements from her exist. One recent quote did surface, where she shared that Gómez Bolaños told her, “your share is finished.” She also admitted how much the separation hurt her. They had been married for 23 years. Graciela simply stated, “And Florinda took him.”
Graciela Fernández’s Life After Divorce
Graciela chose a quiet life focused on her family. While the romance between Chespirito and Florinda Meza became one of the most famous in Latin American television, the split with Graciela was handled with respect. There were no public fights.
Graciela was always private and spoke very little. Her quiet dignity made her an admired figure to many people. Chespirito’s ex-wife fully dedicated herself to raising their six children: Paulina, Marcela, Cecilia, Teresa, Roberto, and Graciela Gómez Fernández.
Unlike other ex-partners of famous people, Graciela never tried to find new love in the public eye. In fact, her son Roberto shared in a recent interview that she never had another partner. He said they never found out about one if she did. He believes she loved Chespirito until her last day.
A video went viral in July during the buzz around the HBO Max bioseries. It showed Graciela, Chespirito, and Florinda at their son Roberto’s wedding to actress Chantal Andere in 2001. The video captured all three of them in the same scene, a rare sight.

What Chespirito Left Graciela Fernández
In his autobiography, Gómez Bolaños admitted that starting a romantic relationship with Florinda Meza was one of the hardest times in his life. He felt a strong connection with Florinda, who was vital to his TV shows. Yet, his decision also brought guilt, sadness, and awareness of the emotional toll it would take on his family.
During this time, he knew that the separation wasn’t just about feelings. It was also about his financial duty. After the divorce, Gómez Bolaños decided to leave Graciela a good portion of his wealth. He gave her two houses, several plots of land, the family properties, his favorite car, and a significant amount of money.
He did not do this because the law forced him. He did it out of personal belief. He wanted to make sure his partner of over two decades had stability and comfort. His son, Roberto Gómez Fernández, confirmed this gesture. In an interview with Mara Patricia Castañeda, Roberto said his father was always there for his mother. “He never stopped supporting my mother in every way, financially of course,” Roberto explained. “She never needed anything. My father was always there, supporting her, until his very last day.”
