Google shuts down one of its oldest services after 16 years of service

Google has had several failed attempts to create a chat service to compete with the big ones. One of these attempts was Google Talklaunched in 2005, and which will now see its end after 16 years of operation.

Other attempts were Google Allo, Google Chat, and Google Hangouts, to name a few.

People who knew what Google Talk was would probably have assumed the service had disappeared years ago. The company has changed its messaging platforms several times, but the service has been running since 2005.

Google just announced via a blog post that the service will end in June 16th. That doesn’t give people much time to change, although honestly, there shouldn’t be a huge user base for this service.
