It’s only been a little over a week since Google pulled back the curtain on its new Pixel 10 series. The big launch event in New York City promised a lot: a sharper focus on artificial intelligence, a fresh look, better cameras, and a brighter screen. But the initial excitement is quickly turning into frustration for some early adopters. It seems the new phones are already running into a familiar problem: wireless charging issues.
Reports from users, especially on platforms like Reddit, suggest that many new Pixel 10 owners are not happy with their wireless charging experience. It looks like an unknown glitch is messing with how these latest Pixels power up.
Charging Headaches Begin
People are running into several problems when they try to use their existing wireless chargers. For example, some Pixel 10, 10 Pro, or Pro XL phones stop charging after just a few seconds or minutes on a wireless pad. It’s like the connection simply gives up.
Others are seeing very slow charging speeds. Their wireless power drops to around 5 watts on some older Qi chargers, even Google’s own Pixel Stand 2nd Generation. When these issues first popped up, many suspected the problem might be tied to Google’s move to the new Qi2 wireless charging standard. This new standard involves switching from the older Extended Power Profile (EPP) to the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP).
Understanding the New Standard
Both MPP and EPP standards support wireless charging up to 15 watts. However, MPP uses magnets to make sure devices are lined up perfectly for charging. This is a key difference.
Interestingly, the official listing for the Pixel 10 on the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) website doesn’t put any limits on charging for non-Qi2 compatible chargers. This detail makes the situation a bit puzzling.
Some also believe that older Pixel Stands might not be able to power the new devices efficiently. Google’s older, somewhat unique charging method has now become part of the new Qi2 standard. This change could mean that older chargers are simply incompatible with the new Pixel phones.
What’s Next for Pixel Owners?
It’s still unclear how Google plans to fix these wireless charging problems for the Pixel 10 devices. For now, if you own a Pixel 10, the best advice is to use a wireless charger that is certified for Qi2. This should help you get the best possible charging results.
