Controversy surrounds Emily Estefan, daughter of iconic singer Gloria Estefan. On October 28, Emily’s partner, Gemeny Hernández, was arrested following an alleged domestic violence incident. Hernández faces charges of aggravated robbery and misdemeanor battery.
Reports indicate the altercation began over a phone. It allegedly escalated when Hernández physically assaulted Estefan.
Estefan reportedly sustained a bruise around her left eye and several scratches on the right side of her neck. The American singer then called 911, leading to Hernández’s arrest.
The couple has been together for approximately eight years and resides in Miami, Florida. Hernández appeared in Miami-Dade court before Judge Mindy S. Glazer. She was subsequently released after posting a $3,000 USD bail.
During the court appearance, Emily Estefan made a video call. She expressed her wishes against her partner’s imprisonment.
Estefan stated, “I didn’t want her to go to jail, I begged the detective and officers not to take her away.” The judge clarified that arrests are typical in domestic violence cases.
Estefan acknowledged this, saying, “I understand perfectly and I know they were doing their job, but I’m not afraid, I don’t want any order against her.” Gemeny Hernández was released from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Wednesday afternoon. She covered her face from reporters and did not offer any statements.
Hernández is a 31-year-old American music producer with Cuban roots, born in Miami. She has over 40,000 followers on Instagram.
Recently, she participated in the ‘iHeart Radio Fiesta Latina’ event, where Emily Estefan performed. Hernández also identifies as a writer and occasional stylist on her social media.
A graduate of Florida International University (FIU), Hernández has played the violin since childhood. She is also known for her culinary talents.
Hernández has maintained a good relationship with the entire Estefan family, including Gloria and Lili Estefan. Emily Estefan and Gemeny Hernández have been in a romantic relationship since 2016.
They publicly confirmed their relationship in 2017 while attending a tribute for Gloria Estefan at the Kennedy Center in Washington. That same year, they launched the podcast ‘In Our Own World,’ focusing on music, identity, and diversity. New episodes for the podcast ceased in April of this year.
Despite some media speculation, all indications are that Emily Estefan and Gemeny Hernández remain a couple.
