Defending champions Spain will face Germany in the 2025 Women’s Nations League final, setting up a clash between two of Europe’s football powerhouses.
Germany secured their spot by drawing 2-2 with France in the second leg of their semifinal, advancing on a 3-2 aggregate after a 1-0 first-leg victory. Spain confirmed their place with a 1-0 win over Sweden in Gothenburg, following a dominant 4-0 home victory for a 5-0 aggregate.
The final will be played over two legs, scheduled for November 28 and December 2.
In their semifinal, Germany’s match against France in Caen saw early drama. Melvin Malard put France ahead after just three minutes. Germany responded with goals from Nicole Anyomi in the 12th minute and Klara Buhl in the 50th. Buhl had also scored in the first leg. Clara Mateo scored for France in the 89th minute, but coach Christian Wück’s team held on for the draw to reach the final.
Germany finished third in the inaugural 2024 edition of the tournament. They beat the Netherlands 2-0 in the third-place playoff after a 2-1 semifinal loss to France.
For Spain, Alexia Putellas scored their sole goal against Sweden in Gothenburg in the 75th minute. Claudia Pina assisted Putellas; both players represent FC Barcelona. The two had each scored twice in Spain’s 4-0 home leg victory against Sweden.
Coach Sonia Bermúdez oversaw Spain’s dominant semifinal performance. Cristina MartÃn-Prieto, a player for Benfica, entered as a substitute for Spain at halftime, replacing Eva Navarro.
In the 2024 final, Spain, then coached by Montserrat Tomé, defeated France 2-0 in a single match played in Seville. Goals from Aitana Bonmatà and Mariona Caldentey secured that title.
