The campus of the German football team will receive information about the human rights situation in Qatarthough non-sports factors should not affect the performance of the teamaccording to what was confirmed by authorities of the German Football Federation (DBF) through its director, Oliver Bierhoff, a former soccer player for the German national team.

“We have to be careful to find this balancing act between responsibility and conscience that we have as human beings. On the other hand, We are going to Qatar as the German football team, we represent our country and we want to play football successfully.”Bierhoff said in statements to the German media.

The former German striker made it clear that both issues should be separated. “The many noises and also the criticisms that come beforehand due to the human rights situation in Qatar should not lead us to not want to play the tournament”Bierhoff remarked during his speech at the DFB congress “Sport and Human Rights: Measures before, during and after the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022” in Frankfurt.

Last year, German footballers had called for human rights to be respected in Qatar with actions to be carried out before the World Cup qualifying matches. At the World Cup, which begins on November 20, Germany is in Group E along with Japan, Spain and Costa Rica.
