Ganguly’s big reveal about Ashwin, told what led him to return to Team India

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has admitted he was unsure whether off-track star Ravichandran Ashwin would rejoin the India team on a limited basis. Ashwin had not played a single limited overs match for India for four years after being retired in 2017. Ganguly, however, revealed that Virat Kohli wanted to keep Ashwin on the squad for the T20 World Cup. Ganguly appreciated the way Ashwin seized the opportunity.

Ganguly said in a conversation with sportswriter Boria Majumdar that he was unsure whether R Ashwin would be part of the Limit Overs team again. But Virat Kohli wanted him on the World Cup squad and whatever chance he got, this bowler made the most of it and performed brilliantly.

Let us tell you that Ashwin took 6 wickets in 3 T20 World Cup matches. Then he also performed brilliantly in the T20 series against New Zealand. Sourav Ganguly also said that everyone talks about him. After the Kanpur Test, also came the statement from coach Rahul Dravid that he described Ashwin as an all-time great bowler. You don’t need rocket science to find Ashwin’s talent. I have praised based on what I have seen. It could be Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, Rohit Sharma, or Virat Kohli. Ashwin took a total of 14 wickets in the two-game test series against New Zealand. He received the Man of the Series award.

In the test series against New Zealand, Ashwin beat Harbhajan Singh. It has exceeded 417 plots of Harbhajan. He has become the third tallest carrier in India in test cricket. There have been times when Ashwin was knocked out of Game XI for no solid reason. The same thing happened during the Test series in England.

Ganguly said on this that I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t support it. See how many winning teams you’ve been a part of. He was part of the Indian team that won the 2011 World Cup. When the Indian team won the Champions Trophy in 2013, he was a key bowler in that tournament. When CSK won the IPL, he was their main bowler in the power game and in bowling under difficult conditions.

Ganguly said look at his testing history, it’s fantastic. Needless to say, Ravichandran Ashwin is exceptional. His track record and performance reflect this. And you can’t ignore those players. I’m not surprised by what he’s doing.
