Sergio Ramos saw in Reims his second red in Ligue 1. The Spanish center-back answered the match official in the 40th minute, and, after receiving the yellow card in the first instance, the referee showed him the red one. According to Canal Plus France, the Andalusian center said “Why? What for me? La Puta madre” (Why? Why me?)while the PSG coach, Christophe Galtier, admitted to Canal Plus France that Ramos used an insult that he usually uses in training.
“Regarding the issue of insults, unfortunately I experienced it a few years ago with a foreign player who said something that is used in training. I know Sergio Ramos very well, I am not convinced that the insult was directed at the referee. It’s a training insult, that is heard a lot in the Spanish countryside. The referee took it personally and sent him off, I’m not going to back down from the red card. But there was a lot of nervousness in the team, perhaps frustration due to the fact that the rival was playing a good game for us… ”, he acknowledged.
Ramos’s red is the second he has suffered since he landed in Paris in July 2021. The first occurred in December 2021, specifically in Lorient, for the same reason as in Reims. The former Real Madrid player answered the referee back then after a tackle on a rival and immediately saw the red card. If we stick strictly to LFP regulations, he should miss PSG’s next two games in Ligue 1, as receiving a direct red card carries a two-game suspension.
