FUJIFILM Unveils GFX Eterna Cinema Camera Specs with 4K Open Gate Support

Looking back at the end of 2024, FUJIFILM made a significant announcement about developing its first cinema camera, the ‘GFX ETERNA’, which boasts a large Medium Format image sensor. This exciting news was followed by an update on the camera’s specs at the CP+ event in late February. The GFX ETERNA is set to utilize the GFX 102MP CMOS II HS sensor, paired with the X-Processor 5, similar to the GFX100II, but this time with a strong focus on video capabilities.

One of the key advantages of this setup is that the sensor can transmit data twice as fast as the GFX100S series, enabling the GFX ETERNA to record 4K video using the full sensor with the Open Gate feature. This means that videographers can capture footage in a 4:3 aspect ratio, making it easier to crop and adjust the frame in post-production. The Open Gate feature is a game-changer for video professionals, as it allows for more flexibility and creative freedom when working with footage.

In addition to the Open Gate feature, the GFX ETERNA also supports Dual Base ISO at 800 and 3200 for F-Log 2 and F-Log 2C color profiles. This is a significant development, as it provides users with more options for capturing high-quality footage in a variety of lighting conditions. Interestingly, the inclusion of F-Log 2C in the GFX100II was likely a precursor to the GFX ETERNA, as both cameras share similar capabilities.
