Max Fried narrowly outpointed Jacob deGrom for aces, and rookie Michael Harris II hit a go-ahead double in the seventh as the Atlanta Braves beat the New York Mets 3-2 Thursday night. York.
Braves rookie Vaughn Grissom drove from first to score on Harris’ short grounder to center field. In the ninth inning, the Puerto Rican star of the Mets, Francisco Lindor, was caught in no man’s land between the bases, and was out.
The Braves won three of four games in the series and moved within 3 1/2 games of the Mets themselves, leaders of the National League East. Atlanta has won nine of its last 10 meetings.
New York has lost three of four after winning 17 of 20.
Fried (11-4) worked seven chapters, in which he allowed two runs and four hits, without giving walks and with six strikeouts.
DeGrom (2-1) gave up five hits and three runs while not walking and striking out nine in 6 2/3 innings.
