Francisca Veselko Out of Ericeira Pro Challenger Series, Secures World Tour Points

Francisca Veselko falls in the round of 16 in Ericeira

The waves at Ericeira delivered a tough blow to Francisca Veselko this Thursday. She was knocked out of the EDP Ericeira Pro, the fourth stop in the 2025 Challenger Series. Japanese surfer Amuro Tsuzuki edged her out in heat three of the women’s round of 16, ending Veselko’s run in the Portuguese event.

The day started with the men’s competition, wrapping up its third round. Then, in the late afternoon, the women took to the water for their first four round of 16 heats. Known as Kika, Veselko competed in the second-to-last heat of the day. She put up a strong fight, scoring 13.23 points. However, Tsuzuki proved just a bit better, posting a winning score of 15.50 points.

Despite the early exit from Ribeira d’Ilhas, finishing ninth overall, this wasn’t a total loss for the young Portuguese surfer. She came into Ericeira ranked fifth. Her performance here means she has climbed to a provisional fourth place in the rankings. This climb earned her crucial points. These points are vital for her fight to secure one of the seven spots on the 2026 World Tour. Every wave counts in that race.

Now, all eyes turn to Yolanda Hopkins. She stands as the last Portuguese contender left in Ericeira. Hopkins currently holds the second spot in the Challenger Series ranking. She is set to face off against Brazil’s Laura Raupp. Their battle will take place in heat five of the women’s round of 16. This heat is expected to kick off tomorrow’s surfing action. The call for the surfers is set for 7:45 AM at Ribeira d’Ilhas.
