Fortaleza Sacks Coach Renato Paiva After 10 Games, Poor Record

Well, that was quick. Renato Paiva’s time leading Fortaleza hit a wall this Tuesday. The Portuguese coach lasted just ten games at the helm. It was a tough run, and his dismissal wasn’t much of a surprise given the team’s poor showing.

From the start, Paiva wasn’t the most popular choice among the fans. He took over after Vojvoda, but it felt like the supporters never really warmed up to him. Protests against his leadership began almost as soon as he arrived. That uneasy feeling around his appointment turned out to be a sign of things to come.

His record tells the story. Out of the ten matches he managed, Fortaleza only grabbed one victory. That’s a difficult outcome for any team, and it meant the club was in a rough spot. Less than two months after taking charge, Paiva is gone. He had signed a contract that was supposed to keep him with the team until the end of 2026.

Now, Fortaleza is stuck in a relegation battle. Their chances of qualifying for the Libertadores are also out the window. It’s a harsh reality check for everyone involved, highlighting the unforgiving nature of top-tier football.

The club made the news official. Fortaleza Esporte Clube announced Paiva’s exit from his coaching duties. His assistant coaches, Ricardo Dionísio and Miguel Santos, are also leaving. Goalkeeping coach Rui Tavares is departing as well. The club, known as Leão do Pici, thanked them for their efforts and wished them success in their next steps.
