The Indian cricket team’s prowess isn’t just limited to batting and bowling; their fielding is also widely praised. The team’s fitness is a key factor, thanks in part to the efforts of R. Sridhar, a former fielding coach. Sridhar worked with Team India from 2014 to 2021, and now he’s joined Sri Lanka Cricket.
A New Assignment
Sri Lanka Cricket has brought in Sridhar to lead a 10-day elite program starting May 7. The goal is to boost fielding standards across all levels, from national teams to under-19s. Sridhar, a BCCI Level 3 qualified coach, has extensive experience, having worked with India in over 300 international matches.
The program will focus on fielding practice, skills training, and match scenarios. Sridhar’s expertise is expected to make a significant impact, given his track record with Team India.
Not the First Time
This isn’t the first time Sri Lanka Cricket has brought in an expert to enhance performance. In 2024, they invited Zubin Bharucha, high-performance director of Rajasthan Royals, to improve batting standards. Other notable experts, like former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram and South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes, have also contributed to similar programs.
About R. Sridhar
Born in Karnataka, 54-year-old R. Sridhar didn’t play international cricket but had a respectable career in first-class and List A matches. He scored 574 runs and took 91 wickets in 35 first-class matches, and 69 runs with 14 wickets in 15 List A matches. His experience and knowledge will be invaluable to the Sri Lankan team.
