Criticizing India’s change in batting order, former legend Sunil Gavaskar had called Ishaan a “hit or miss” player. According to Ishaan’s childhood coach, Uttam Majumdar, nothing is over for the 23-year-old.

Majumdar, a former Bihar U-22 cricketer, recognized Ishaan’s talent when he was just seven years old. “Any player can face failure. It was a shame that he came out in the big game. But if this team’s strategy were successful, they would have become a star overnight.

“Given the way he had hit the last three innings, he should have had more chances (at the World Cup),” he said, pointing to Ishaan’s form before the World Cup.

Ishaan had scored an undefeated 70 in the preparation match against England after playing an undefeated 50 and 84 in the IPL (Indian Premier League) before the World Cup.

Majumdar said: “He is a very natural player and he’s not afraid to hit big shots. That day he was specially sent to play the big shot in the powerplay, but unfortunately it was not his day. However, you will have many more opportunities.

He said that after becoming Rahul Dravid’s coach, Ishaan should have more opportunities. Majumdar said: “Dravid sir, you know him well since Ishan became the team captain for the 2016 U19 World Cup.
