Florida Treasure Coast: 1715 Spanish Shipwreck Yields 1,000+ Gold, Silver Coins

Lost Gold and Silver Unearthed Off Florida’s Fabled Coast

The sun-kissed waters off Florida’s Atlantic shoreline have long held secrets. This stretch of ocean, famously known as the “Treasure Coast,” just gave up another one. A team of treasure hunters recently pulled over a thousand gold and silver coins from the deep. These precious relics sat hidden for more than 300 years on the seabed.

The company behind this amazing find is 1715 Fleet-Queens Jewels LLC. They announced the discovery this week, on October 2, 2025. Their divers recovered these items from the wreck of an old Spanish ship. The total value of the recovered treasure is estimated to be about $1 million. This works out to around 37 million Thai Baht.

Divers found a mix of silver and gold coins. Many of these coins still clearly show their original dates and mint marks. This makes them especially valuable to historians and collectors. The challenging work to bring these items to the surface wrapped up last summer. The crew kept the exciting news quiet until now.

The original shipwreck happened way back in July 1715. A huge hurricane struck a Spanish fleet, sending several ships and their valuable cargo to the bottom of the sea. These vessels were carrying wealth meant for Spain. Instead, their riches lay lost for centuries. This very event gave the “Treasure Coast” its enduring name. Generations of adventurers and historians have searched these waters ever since, hoping to reclaim a piece of history.
