Feyenoord Takes Sole Eredivisie Lead With Fifth Consecutive Victory

Feyenoord players celebrating

Feyenoord is on a roll. The Dutch powerhouse grabbed their fifth straight victory in the league this past Wednesday. They welcomed Fortuna Sittard to their home stadium and delivered a solid 2-0 win. This latest triumph keeps them firmly at the top of the Dutch standings. It also sets them up nicely for their upcoming European adventure against Sp. Braga in the Europa League.

The atmosphere at De Kuip Stadium in Rotterdam was buzzing. Feyenoord, missing Portuguese player Gonçalo Borges, still found their rhythm. Japanese forward Ayase Ueda broke the deadlock just before halftime, hitting the back of the net in the 40th minute. That lone goal gave the home side a slim lead as they headed into the break.

After the restart, Feyenoord continued their push. This match was actually a rescheduled game from the third round. Fortuna Sittard’s Portuguese defender, Ivo Pinto, was not available for selection. In the 72nd minute, Aymen Sliti doubled Feyenoord’s advantage, putting the game out of reach. It was a well-deserved win for Robin van Persie’s squad.

This string of good results has really shaken up the league table. Feyenoord now sits proudly in first place with 15 points. Defending champions PSV are trailing in second with 12 points. Legendary club Ajax completes the top three, holding 11 points. The race for the title is heating up, and Feyenoord looks strong.

But the schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Rotterdam club. Before their Europa League opener against Sp. Braga on September 24, as part of the 2025/26 edition’s inaugural round, they have another big test. This Sunday, Feyenoord travels to face AZ Alkmaar in a crucial sixth-round league match. They’ll need to keep their winning streak alive to maintain their impressive lead.
