EI Villarreal will return home this Saturday. Only seven months after starting the comprehensive renovation of the stadium, La Cerámica is finished on time and in the right manner. With a cost of 50 million (26 more than initially expected due to the increase in the price of materials) and thanks to the project of the architect César Azcárate, the same of the New San Mamés and the Ciutat de València, Fernando Roig will see one of his dreams come true since he took the reins of Villarreal 25 years agoa state-of-the-art stadium whose name honors one of the motors of the region, La Cerámica.

The project, in truth, started with his arrival in 1997. A few months later he was already immersed in reconstruction, remodeling and change works. With Roig, La Cerámica, formerly El Madrigal, has never stopped. It started with the bottom and the preference, then, with the promotion to First Division, its capacity was increased.

Roig inherited a field of just over 10,000 spectators, which made it grow to 25,000, and which is now going to maintain 22,000 seats with this latest remodeling. Only the location remains of the old Madrigal, a pitch that has been there since the day the club was founded 100 years ago.

La Cerámica is now a fully covered stadium. Roig wanted a modern, comfortable field, close to the people, and that would invite them to attend football, as well as infrastructures and services so that the venue is not just a football field.

In this latest remodeling, 2,400 tons of steel, 12,900 mere square meters of roof and 8,700 square meters of ceramic façade have been used. Two video scoreboards (300m2 of screen), a new public address system, new sports lighting and the installation of the Sky-Cam have been installed. In addition, interior spaces have been created, among others, a multipurpose room with views of the pitch, the remodeling of the restaurant and a space for the museum.
