This Monday officially kicks off the great event of the season on clay: Roland Garros. It does so with the start of the previous round in which the tennis players will look for one of the 16 places to access the final men’s and women’s draw of the tournament and in which this year we will see several illustrious players of the racket in action.
One of them is Toledo Feliciano López, who wants to continue extending his historic streak of consecutive appearances in the final draws of a Grand Slam. ‘Feli’ will seek his presence in his eightieth Grand Slam in a row and for this he will begin his adventure in the previous one this Tuesday against the Italian Gian Marco Moroni.
For your part Fernando Verdasco wants to show that he can still shine in the big tournaments on the calendar after a last year marked by injuries. Verdasco, who will start as fifth seed, will face Bosnian Damir Dzumhur on Tuesday in the first qualifying round.
Vilella and Zapata, on stage
Two Spanish tennis players, along with ‘Feli’ and Verdasco, complete the list of the ‘Armada’ in the previous round and both enter the fray this Monday. Mario Vilella from Elche will open the day on Court 6 against Australian Aleksandar Vukic (10:00), while Bernabé Zapata from Valencia will debut in the last turn on Court 2 against Israeli Dudi Sela (14:30 approx.)
In this way ‘Feli’, Verdasco, Vilella and Zapata will try to join the wide Spanish representation with a place in the final table of Roland Garros that form Rafa Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, Pablo Carreño, Roberto Bautista, Alejandro Davidovich, Pedro Martínez, Albert Ramos, Pablo Andújar, Carlos Taberner and Jaume Munar.
Five tennis players seek the pass in the women’s draw
In the preview of the Roland Garros women’s draw, five Spanish players will seek to join the already qualified Paula Badosa, Garbiñe Muguruza, Sara Sorribes and Nuria Párrizas in the final draw of the tournament.
This Monday the Barcelonan Georgina Garía Pérez, who will face the Russian Natalia Vikhlyantseva in the first turn of the day on court 15 (10:00), and the Cantabrian Cristina Bucsa, which will be measured in the last turn of this same Court 15 against Olga Govortsova (13:00 approx.)
As of Tuesday, the other three Spanish representatives will enter the fray in the previous one. Aliona Bolsova will debut against Liechtenstein tennis player Kathinka Von Deichmann. For your part Rebeka Masarova will be measured against Serbian Olga Danilovic.
