Fatima Sana Shaikh is speaking out about the impact of the Me Too movement on the entertainment industry. As she promotes her upcoming film “Metro In Dino”, the actress shared her thoughts on the change she’s seen in the industry. According to Fatima, the Me Too movement has brought about a significant shift, making people more accountable for their actions.
In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Fatima said, “I think things have changed. People are more accountable. They’re a little more scared.” She noted that most film sets now have units that address complaints of harassment before they escalate into police matters. This, she believes, has led to more serious conversations and investigations into these issues.
Fatima also acknowledged that the industry is still male-dominated, which can lead to problems. “When you’re working with someone, you become intimate. But then things change, and you don’t understand what’s happening,” she explained. “The benefit of doubt is often given to women in the right way because this is a male-dominated industry.” However, with the Me Too movement, women are now more comfortable speaking out, and people are being held accountable.
When asked about her own experiences, Fatima said she hasn’t faced any issues in the industry. “It’s not that the industry is bad. Any incident that has happened is just a small talk, a small conversation,” she clarified. She emphasized that these problems aren’t limited to the film industry, but are also prevalent in the corporate world.
Fatima praised the POSH agency, which works with artists, crew members, and other stakeholders to educate them on their rights and what is acceptable behavior. With the Me Too movement, Fatima believes that people are now more aware of these issues and are taking steps to address them.
