Farhan Akhtar is set to star as an army officer in his upcoming film, ‘120 Bahadur.’ During promotional interviews for the movie, Akhtar shared significant thoughts on the meaning of patriotism.
The actor, who previously directed the military drama ‘Lakshya,’ has a history of exploring themes of national service. ‘Lakshya’ effectively conveyed the importance of the army and the true sense of patriotism to audiences.
Akhtar emphasized a crucial distinction between genuine patriotism and what he terms “blind nationalism.” Speaking to Just to Filmy, he described patriotism as a beautiful emotion. He firmly believes that blind nationalism, however, is a harmful sentiment.
Akhtar stated that the honest actions of soldiers speak for themselves, requiring no further commentary. Their dedication and decisions inherently display their patriotism and loyalty to the nation. He added that ‘120 Bahadur’ aims to portray this same truth.
Preparing for his role as Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, Akhtar met with the Major’s son. He learned that Major Bhati maintained a smile even during challenging times, showcasing his exceptional nature and leadership qualities.
The film’s narrative offers profound lessons, according to Akhtar. He noted that ‘120 Bahadur’ illustrates that no conflict can be won by an individual alone. True success emerges from effective leadership combined with collective courage.
‘120 Bahadur’ tells the story of the 1962 India-China war. It specifically focuses on the Battle of Rezang La. In this battle, approximately 120 Indian soldiers from the 13 Kumaon Regiment, under Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, bravely confronted over 3,000 Chinese troops. They defended their post until their final breath.
Akhtar portrays Major Shaitan Singh Bhati in the film. The movie is scheduled for release on November 21.
