A shooting in the dead of night has left the family of Arturo Espinosa, a 27-year-old man gunned down in June 2024, shaken. The family’s home in the Cerro Norte neighborhood was sprayed with bullets in the early hours of Tuesday.
Patricia, Arturo’s mother, told News Agency she was jolted awake by the sound of gunfire after midnight. She rushed outside to find shell casings littering the street. It wasn’t until morning that they noticed damage to the house – bullet holes in the facade and scattered debris.
The family is terrified and has reported the attack. “Just like they killed my son, anything can happen to us,” Patricia said, her voice laced with fear. The family’s lawyer, Rodrigo Rey, doesn’t rule out a connection between the shooting and Arturo’s murder. “It would be naive not to consider a link between the two,” he said.
Arturo’s murder case has three suspects, and Rey is counting on the Homicide Bureau to uncover the masterminds behind the killing. He plans to add photos of the bullet holes as evidence to the investigation file. “This could be a case of mistaken identity by the hit squad,” Rey suggested.
The memory of Arturo’s killing is still fresh. On June 20, 2024, three men dressed as cops stormed into the family’s home, yelling “this is a raid.” Arturo raised his hands, but they shot him anyway. His partner and 6-year-old daughter were with him but escaped unharmed. Arturo was a street vendor, selling trinkets and perfumes to provide for his family.
Now, the family lives in fear of retaliation. The attack on their home has left them on edge, wondering what might happen next. As they wait for answers, they can’t help but think of Arturo and the life he left behind.
