New Midfielder Addition
Espanyol has made a significant move to bolster its team with the loan signing of Urko González, a talented midfielder from Real Sociedad, until the end of the season. This addition brings the total number of new signings to three, following the arrivals of Pablo Ramón and Roberto Fernández. González, a 23-year-old Basque footballer, stands at 1.89 meters and is known for his ideal position as a pivot.
Trained in the youth team of Real Sociedad, González has had limited playing time with the first team this season, featuring in only four games, including one domestic competition match, two Copa del Rey matches, and one Europa League match, totaling 300 minutes. His arrival is expected to add a new dynamic to Espanyol’s midfield, a position that has been in need of reinforcement.
With González on board, Espanyol has now signed one player per line in January, having previously strengthened its defense and forward line. The midfielder has already undergone a medical examination and is set to be presented to the media in the coming days. He will begin training with his new teammates soon, under the guidance of Manolo González.
Medical Examination and Training
González’s medical examination has been completed, and he is expected to join his new teammates for training soon. His presentation to the media is anticipated to take place in the next few days, marking the official start of his tenure with Espanyol.
Player Departure
In addition to new signings, Espanyol has also announced the departure of Salvi Sánchez, who has reached an agreement with the club to terminate his contract. Sánchez’s role in the team has been minimal since the arrival of Manolo González, with the player featuring in only 57 minutes of Copa del Rey action this season.
The departure of Sánchez follows that of Naci Ünüvar, and there may be more movements in the coming days. Irvin Cardona, who is not part of the coach’s plans, is reportedly seeking to resolve his future, and his departure could be imminent.
