Enagás will be able to act as interim manager of the hydrogen backbone network

The manager of Spanish gas network and transport company Enagás will also be able to act as interim manager of the hydrogen backbone network, a measure he considers “necessary” to achieve European decarbonization goals and in line with countries’ specifications like Germany and the Netherlands.

In a press release sent this Thursday, Enagás refers to the Royal Decree-Law approved by the Council of Ministers the day before, which states that the interim regulation will apply “until the final designation of the hydrogen network operators in accordance with the conditions enshrined in European regulations.

According to the company, the text provides that the managers of the natural gas transmission network can send a proposal for the development of the hydrogen backbone infrastructure to the General Directorate of Energy Policy and Mining within four months, without obligation, with a horizon of ten years.

Enagás can act as a representative of the European Network of Hydrogen Network Operators

In addition, they may provisionally, with the approval of the Council of Ministers and through horizontally separated legal entities, “exercise the functions of developing the hydrogen backbone network within the framework of projects of common European interest.”
