EL GATO’s Nostalgia Cup Rekindles Free Fire Roots, Draws Over 200K Viewers

A recent Free Fire tournament, designed to rekindle early-day nostalgia, successfully united veteran and contemporary players and captivated over 200,000 simultaneous viewers.

The “Copa Nostalgia” event was the brainchild of EL GATO, a prominent figure and founder of the LOS esports organization. He returned to the game after a five-year hiatus specifically to host the tournament.

EL GATO’s objective was to evoke the “root” sentiment of Free Fire’s peak years, widely considered to be between 2019 and 2021. The tournament uniquely featured only “old skills” gameplay, a direct nod to earlier versions of the mobile battle royale.

The event showcased a blend of player generations. It brought together renowned names like piuzinho, vinixt, dantes, Will, eltinho, levelup, babi, YURI22, Bak, and Cerol.

The significant viewership demonstrated the deep affection players hold for the game across its evolution. More than 200,000 concurrent viewers tuned in for the retro-themed competition.

Despite the tournament’s focus on the “old guard” and nostalgic gameplay, the ultimate victor was Victor “Mito” Gabriel. Gabriel is a current professional Free Fire Emulador player for the Fluxo organization.

Organizers noted that the tournament’s primary value lay in the entertainment and good memories it created. This transcended who ultimately won the competition.
