The fallout from the disturbing events in Gran Canaria has begun. Following the incidents that marred the Second Regional Group II League match between CD Teldecosta and CD Arena Futboltec on February 21 at the El Goro field, the Competition and Discipline Committee of the Interinsular Football Federation of Las Palmas has taken decisive action.
According to the referee’s report and the evidence presented, several CD Teldecosta players were involved in the unsavory incidents, which led the committee to hand down a provisional one-month suspension to eight identified players. This move sends a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated.
The match in question took place on Friday, February 21, in the town of El Goro, Gran Canaria, and saw the three referees forced to lock themselves in the locker room due to insults and threats from several local team players. The details of the incident, as outlined in the match report, are disturbing and highlight the need for swift action to ensure the safety and respect of match officials.
In addition to the player suspensions, CD Teldecosta has been sanctioned with a four-game closure of their field, in accordance with Article 99 of the Disciplinary Regime Regulation of the Canary Football Federation. These sanctions are provisional while the disciplinary file is being prepared, and an appeal can be made to the committee within ten business days.
The referees’ account of the incident is particularly alarming, with several local players attempting to enter their changing room with shouts and threats. With no keys to lock the door from the inside, the referees were forced to improvise by placing a stick at the door until the National Police arrived.
The Interinsular Football Federation of Las Palmas has reaffirmed its commitment to clean play and respect in the sports field, emphasizing that such behavior will not be condoned. As the investigation continues, it’s clear that the ‘Terror Party’ will indeed face consequences for their actions.
