Last Tuesday, a shocking record was shattered in the DreamLeague Season 26 North American qualifiers. The unprecedented feat happened during a best-of-three match between Wildcard and 4 Zoomers.
The record for the shortest match in pro Dota 2 history now belongs to this game. Prior to this, the record was held by a match between EHOME and Moscow Five, which lasted 6 minutes and 37 seconds at the BeyondTheSummit World Tour in 2012.
A new benchmark for Dota 2
Pro player Luke “Yamsun” Wang’s impressive gameplay on the second map sealed the deal. He took down the enemy midlaner twice, with the final blow coming right after the player had bought their way back into the game. The frustrated player quit, and soon after, 4zoomers conceded the match, handing Wildcard the win.
As Wildcard advanced to the upper semifinal and eventually made it to the grand final against Shopify Rebellion, 4zoomers was eliminated by 5BUGPIGPOLE in the lower bracket. The tournament champion secures a spot in DreamLeague Season 26.
A tweet from Ben Steenhuisen, aka Noxville, broke the news:
Last night saw the fastest match in pro Dota 2 history (only including matches in which it wasn’t an immediate walkover/forfeit).
After 6m04s566ms, 4zoomers forfeit to @wildcard_gg — over 30s faster than the previous record (the famous M5/EHOME game from BTS World Tour 2012). pic.twitter.com/uD6K8zc3C6
