Don Esteban Stream: Navy, Police Search for Man, Two Children Using Divers, Geothermal Drone

A widespread and urgent search is underway near the city of Young. Teams are looking for Andrés Morosini and his two young sons, ages six and two. Morosini, 28, reportedly took the children by force from their mother’s home in Mercedes, Soriano. The diverse search efforts are concentrating on the Don Esteban stream area. These involve geothermal drones, Navy divers, firefighters, and police with K9 units.

On Thursday, the search specifically centered on the Don Esteban stream itself. This location is roughly at kilometer 58 on Route 20, just outside Young. Guillermo Pais, the Prefect of Fray Bentos Port, confirmed the focus. He stated that teams are sweeping the area to confirm or rule out police leads.

Navy personnel are navigating the stream using a pneumatic boat. A specialized group of Navy divers are also doing underwater sweeps. The stream averages between 1.5 and 3.5 meters deep. However, a powerful current has made diving extremely difficult. There are also hidden dangers beneath the surface, posing risks for the divers.

From above, police are using a geothermal drone for an aerial scan. This smart tool helps them eliminate certain areas from the search. It also guides them to focus on specific quadrants. The drone detects heat, as Prefect Pais explained. “By detecting heat, it allows us to focus the search in certain areas,” he noted.

Ruben Olivera, a local farmer, offered his help, joining the search with his tractor. Olivera mentioned the stream isn’t very deep but carries a swift current. This area is often used by fishermen and hunters in their vehicles. Investigators are now closely examining a vehicle track. It seems a car might have driven into the water. This track resembles the BYD F0 that Morosini drove away in with his young children.
