Dominican Republic stands out complies with agreements on trade facilitation

The Director General of Customs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, stated that on the instructions of President Luis Abiander, the members of the National Committee for Trade Facilitation (CNFC), an entity that he chairs, were summoned to continue with the mission of facilitating trade and creation of jobs and wealth in the country.

“We are at a key moment in our history, where we are defending a way of life and a system,” said Sanz Lovatón during the 16th quarterly meeting of the CNFC, in which representatives of the public-private sectors presented the advances that have been obtained through the application of the measures promoted by this committee and the challenges facing the implementation of improvements.

Compliance

At the meeting, the CNFC secretariat presented a report on the status of the commitments assumed by the country in the Bali agreements, which establishes that around 90.8% have been executed, a percentage that has already been notified to the World Organization for Trade (WTO).

The president of the logistics company Schad, Alexander Schad Frómeta, and the deputy director general of the DGA, Johannes Marinus Kelner, highlighted the steps that have been taken to turn the country into a hub world-class logistics, such as the construction of the Santo Domingo bypass, and the recent enactment of hydrocarbons decree 148-22 in favor of logistics center operators.

They also highlighted the progress of the logistics operators bill, the development of a special protocol for the trade of perishables and the establishment of the volume that logistics operations represent in the Dominican Gross Domestic Product (GDP), an element that will allow having a quantitative item to measure improvements in the sector hub.

About the CNFC

The objective of the CNFC is to facilitate internal coordination and the application of the provisions of the Trade Facilitation Agreement of the World Trade Organization (WTO), in addition to serving as a permanent dialogue table to address issues related to trade facilitation and Logistics.
