Dominican boxers seek qualification for Olympic Cycle games

Olympic boxers Rodrigo Marte, Alexis de la Cruz, Miguelina Hernández and María Moronta lead the team from the Dominican Republic that will compete from March 22 to April 2 of this year in the Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Continental Championship, which will take place in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Rubén García, president of the Dominican Boxing Federation (Fedoboxa), offered the details and specified that the national team will be competing with the best fighters from 30 other countries on the continent, given that this fair is qualifying for the next Olympic events and will add points for the world ranking.

“The Guayaquil championship is the most important so far this year, given that the fighters and countries are looking for points that classify them to participate in the Central American and Caribbean Games, the Pan American Games and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Garcia said.

The Dominican team that will compete in Guayaquil is made up of Mario La Vegal (52 kg), Yan Carlos Pérez (57 kg), Elvis del Castillo (63.5 kg), Rodrigo Marte (54 kg), Alexis de la Cruz (60 kg), Emmanuel Burgos (67 kg), Noel Pacheco (71 kg), Sergio Mosquete (75 kg), Cristian Pinales (80 kg) and Daniel Guzmán (86 kg).

In female, Miguelina Hernández (51 kg), Estéfany Almanza (54 kg), Yéssica Muñoz (57 kg), María Moronta (70 kg) and Nancy Fuentes.

As coach of the national team remains the renowned Cuban coach Armando Hernández, as well as Eudis Méndez. Winstong Méndez (coach), Wilson Ramírez (doctor), Nancy Fuente (physical trainer) and Rafael Viloria, who will be the national delegate, will be part of the delegation.

García explained that under the auspices of the program Creating Olympic Dreams (Creso), directed by businessman Felipe Vicini and managed by Manuel Luna, boxers Marte, De la Cruz, Pinales and Guzmán traveled to Colombia since last Saturday and will participate in a preparatory tournament. before joining the rest of the delegation in Guayaquil on the 22nd for the elite continental tournament.

The president of Fedoboxa explained that boxing continues its hard work thanks to the support it receives from the Ministry of Sports and its minister Francisco Camacho, who once again said that he was present so that the fighters are in good condition before the Guayaquil commitment.
