Every time a prominent public figure dies, it is common to see the crab emoji in social media posts or in people’s comments.

It’s a macabre wink to celebrate a person’s deathespecially when he’s been a particularly controversial character.

Recently, there has been a resurgence of the crab emoji in response to news of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, particularly on certain sections of Reddit such as r/COMPLETEANARCHY.

The music video – which has racked up over 200 million views on YouTube – shows a group of crabs on an island at a rave. Crabs are dancing and celebrating the moment.

Since then, the meme has been simplified and turned into the crab emoji . Most of the time, it is posted to say goodbye.

For example, some people posted the crab emoji when then-President Donald Trump was banned from social media platforms.
