Djokovic: "I'm only going to play if I can fight for the title"

Novak Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon winner, has assured that he will only play the tournament this year if he is physically fit and has a chance to win the title. This comes after he suffered a knee injury at Roland Garros less than three weeks ago.

Djokovic underwent meniscus surgery 19 days ago, but has been making rapid progress in his rehabilitation. Despite being told he would be out of action for three weeks, he was back on the court just a few days later, initially using a stationary bike and later practicing on a hard court.

After training on the Aorangi Park slopes and the All England Club, Djokovic spoke to the media, saying that his plan was to try to play Wimbledon and that’s what he’s doing. He revealed that his knee is going well and that rehabilitation is progressing in the right direction.

Djokovic, who has played in the last five Wimbledon finals and won four of them, will find out who his rivals are on Friday. He confirmed that he will only play if he sees himself with a chance of advancing, and that he will take it day by day based on how he feels.

“I didn’t come here to get through a few rounds. I’ll play if I’m sure. I’ll play if I can play my best,” Djokovic said. “If I can’t play, I’ll give someone else that chance. I’m only going to play if I’m in a position to go far and fight for the title.”

Djokovic also emphasized that he is not planning to retire and wants to continue playing, despite the setback. He has been working hard on his rehabilitation and is determined to make a strong comeback.
