Diogo Ribeiro Falls Short of Singapore World Championship Qualification

Diogo Ribeiro came close to securing his spot at the World Championships in Singapore this June. He won the 100m butterfly final at the Portugal National Open with a time of 51.79s – just 0.02s off the qualifying mark.

Ribeiro, a two-time world champion from Benfica, has already qualified for the championships in the Asian city in the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly events. He skipped these events at the Jamor competition. To qualify for the 100m butterfly, he needed a time of 51.77s.

The 100m butterfly isn’t the only event Ribeiro will compete in. He’s also set to swim the 100m freestyle, one of his favorites. However, he still needs to achieve the qualifying time for this event.

This competition was a chance for Ribeiro to test his current level. Next week, he’ll head to the Ireland National Open with the national team, aiming to complete all the qualifying times he needs.
