Sean "Diddy" Combs recently learned his fate. A judge handed down his sentence after a jury found him guilty of two serious charges. The music mogul, who is 55 years old, will spend more than four years behind bars.
Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Diddy to 50 months in prison this past Friday, October 3. He will get credit for the year he has already served. The judge also ordered Diddy to pay a $500,000 fine. Once he leaves prison, the once-powerful figure will spend five years under supervised release.
During the hearing, Judge Subramanian urged Diddy to make the most of what he called a "second chance." He noted that there is a "real path to redemption." The judge encouraged Diddy to reflect on "what went wrong and what can be done right."
Subramanian also praised the women who spoke out. He called them "brave survivors." He told the court that "Jane [Doe] and Cassie Ventura have suffered abuses and traumas that we could not imagine." He added, "I can only tell you that your families are proud of you and your children will be proud of you for coming to court to tell what really happened. You not only spoke to the jury, you spoke to women who feel powerless."
After the judge delivered the sentence, Diddy reportedly spoke with his family. He then fell to his knees in the courtroom.
Throughout the trial, Diddy’s legal team maintained his innocence. However, a jury ultimately decided otherwise on July 2. They found him guilty of two counts of transportation for prostitution. Each of these charges could have carried a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
The jury did clear Diddy of some other charges. These included conspiracy to commit racketeering and two counts of sex trafficking.
The whole saga began back in September 2024. Diddy was arrested in New York and pleaded not guilty to all charges.
After his arrest, Diddy’s lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, shared a statement with Us Weekly. Agnifilo said his client was "an imperfect person," but "not a criminal." The lawyer added, "Please reserve your judgment until you have all the facts." He also stated that these were "the acts of an innocent man who has nothing to hide, and hopes to clear his name before the court."
Following his arrest, Diddy stayed in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York. He remained there until his trial. His many requests for bail were all denied. The trial began on May 5. It largely focused on accusations made by Cassie, his former girlfriend, and another unnamed woman. Cassie, who is 39, testified during the trial. She shared details of alleged sexual and physical abuse she experienced from Diddy. Their on-again, off-again relationship lasted from 2007 to 2018.
Jury discussions started on June 30. They wrapped up in less than three days. After the guilty verdict, Diddy’s lawyer asked for his immediate release on $1 million bail. He also requested Diddy be allowed to go home to Star Island, Miami Beach. But the prosecution disagreed with this idea. A judge eventually ruled that Diddy must stay in prison until his sentencing.
Diddy’s legal team tried again in July. They asked for an acquittal or a new trial. But the judge formally turned down their request on Tuesday, September 30. This decision came after a hearing the week before.
Judge Subramanian later wrote in the sentence that the "government proved its case many times over" in the federal proceedings. The judge concluded that "That alone could be enough to dismiss Combs’ challenge."
