Friend Lynda Resnick offered insights into Keaton’s private life. She recalled Keaton cultivating many traditions with loved ones. Resnick described their meeting in 2016 as "love at first sight," calling Keaton "the most authentic and talented woman."
Keaton regularly hosted Saturday movie nights with friends. This group included Carole Bayer Sager, Sherry Lansing, and Lauren Shuler Donner.
Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, Keaton prioritized staying connected. She often appeared on Zoom calls in her signature black or white turtleneck sweaters. Resnick noted that Keaton was always "in character" with her iconic menswear-inspired looks, including bowler hats and tailored pieces.
Keaton was also known for giving memorable holiday gifts. Resnick remembered her once buying "incredible books, so big they had to be carried in a U-Haul." Keaton also gave gifts like cookie jars with black and white lids, reflecting her favorite color combination.
Resnick described Keaton as "full of life, love, and happiness." She added that Keaton was always "easy to be with" and will be "missed terribly."
Fellow actor Ed Begley Jr., Keaton’s co-star in Book Club, also shared his grief. He learned of her death after decades of friendship. Begley Jr. told Us Weekly that he was "very impacted" by the news.
Begley Jr. considered Keaton "like a sister" and a "very, very dear friend." He stated they were "extremely close" and that he "loved her very much."
He last saw Keaton at Jack Nicholson’s 88th birthday party on April 22. Begley Jr. noted Keaton’s deep affection for Nicholson. He added that Nicholson would likely be as devastated as he was by her loss.
Authorities responded to a "person down" report at Keaton’s Los Angeles home on Saturday morning. This information came from 911 audio obtained by TMZ. She was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
The cause of Keaton’s death has not yet been released. A spokesperson for Keaton stated to People that her family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
