Veteran forward Ángel Di María, 37, is spearheading an undefeated run for his boyhood club Rosario Central, positioning them to potentially end a decades-long championship drought.
Di María underscored his enduring impact with a goal and an assist in Rosario Central’s recent 3-1 victory over Instituto. This performance solidified his club’s first-place standing in Group B of the Torneio Clausura.
The former Benfica player has been instrumental, accumulating seven goals and three assists since his return to the Argentine team. Rosario Central boasts an impressive record of eight wins and six draws, remaining unbeaten this season with 30 points.
The club’s dominant form offers fans hope for their first Argentinian championship title since 1987. Di María’s leadership has been central to this resurgence.
After a quiet first half, Di María ignited the team’s comeback. Following Instituto’s opener by Mosquera in the 36th minute and a rapid equalizer from Malcorra two minutes later, Di María decisively took charge.
He earned and converted a penalty in the 64th minute, putting Rosario Central ahead. Just three minutes later, he provided the assist for Ovando to seal the 3-1 win.
Despite his star performances, Di María emphasizes the collective effort. “We are a group that works hard,” he stated. “There are no captains or stars here.”
