The cinematic journey of “Dhadak 2” has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. After months of anticipation, the film has finally received its certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). But, this comes with a catch – 16 significant cuts have been made to the movie.
This Bollywood drama, starring Siddharth Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, is a remake of the South Indian film “Pariyerum Perumal.” The original “Dhadak,” released in 2018, was a remake of the Marathi film “Sairat” and featured Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. The sequel promises to delve into themes of caste and societal pressures, which might explain the extensive editing.
The CBFC has given “Dhadak 2” a U/A 16+ rating, indicating that the film is suitable for viewers above 16 years of age. Reportedly, scenes and dialogues related to caste have been either removed or modified to ensure the film doesn’t offend any particular community. One such modification includes changing the line “Dharm ka kaam hai” to “Puny ka kaam,” which translates to “It’s a righteous deed” instead of “It’s a religious duty.”
Produced by Karan Johar, “Dhadak 2” was initially slated for a November 2024 release, but given the delays and the recent certification, the makers are expected to announce a new release date soon. Director Shajia Iqbal’s storytelling navigates complex social issues, which might have contributed to the film’s prolonged battle with the censors. As the film inches closer to its release, fans are eager to see how these edits impact the narrative and the overall viewing experience. With its certification in hand, “Dhadak 2” is now poised to hit theaters, offering a glimpse into the challenges of navigating love and identity amidst societal expectations.
