Padel fans, get ready! The Premier Padel P1 event in Madrid is officially back after a much-needed summer break. This week saw many Portuguese players hit the courts, but it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster ride for them so far. Some found early success, while others faced a quick exit.
One player who unfortunately experienced the latter was Ana Catarina Nogueira. She started with a new partner, Spain’s Melanie Meirino, but their teamwork didn’t quite click. The Portuguese-Spanish duo couldn’t make it past their very first match. They fell to the strong French player Alix Colombon and her Spanish partner Araceli MartÃnez in a tough opening round duel.
On the men’s side, things looked much brighter for the Deus brothers, Miguel and Nuno. These two are a force to be reckoned with, currently ranked as the world’s 20th best padel pair. They went into their opening match with everyone expecting them to win, and they certainly delivered.
They faced off against Spanish wildcards Adrián Ronco and Miguel González. The brothers showed their class, taking control of the game. They secured a solid 7-5, 6-3 victory. This win confidently moved them forward into the round of 32 in the tournament. It was a dominant start for the Portuguese duo.
Their journey continues in the next round. Miguel and Nuno Deus are set for a challenging clash. They will meet fellow Spaniards Javier Barahona and Javi GarcÃa. This Spanish pair is the 12th seeded team in the competition, promising an exciting match ahead.
