Torrential rains halted a key match in Angola’s Girabola football league over the weekend, overshadowing a round that saw shifts in the top standings.
The encounter between Desportivo da Huila and São Salvador do Zaire was suspended with 13 minutes remaining due to severe rainfall in Huila province. Desportivo da Huila, coached by Portugal’s Paulo Torres, was leading 2-0 at the time.
The Angolan Football Federation announced the match would resume on Monday. The interruption means one fixture from the sixth round remains incomplete, affecting the overall standings.
Despite a 4-1 defeat to Petro de Luanda, Recreativo do Libolo maintained its lead at the top of the league table. They hold 13 points from five matches.
Desportivo da Lunda Sul secured a 1-0 victory against Luanda City in the eastern Lunda Sul province. Rodrigo scored the decisive goal in the 60th minute, propelling the team to sixth place with nine points.
In another match, 1º de Maio de Benguela drew 1-1 with Interclube in Angola’s southern Benguela province. Betinho opened the scoring for Interclube in the 42nd minute, with Zico equalizing for the home side in the 74th.
Other sixth-round results included Guelson FC defeating Kabuscorp do Palanca 2-0, Bravos do Maquis beating Wiliete de Benguela 2-0, and Redonda FC securing a 1-0 win against Académica do Lobito.
The latest round has solidified positions for some teams while others are closely contesting mid-table ranks.
