Delhi Capitals Appoint Kevin Pietersen as Mentor Ahead of IPL Season

Before the start of the IPL season, some exciting news has emerged from the Delhi Capitals camp. The team has appointed former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen as their mentor. This isn’t Pietersen’s first stint with the Delhi Capitals, having played for them in the IPL previously. In 19 matches, he scored 599 runs, showcasing his skills as a formidable batsman. Now, he’ll be taking on a new role, guiding the team as a mentor. The current coaching setup includes Hemang Bagni as the head coach and Matthew Mot as the assistant coach.

Pietersen’s IPL journey began in the 2009 season with the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Over the years, he has also been part of the Deccan Chargers, Delhi Capitals, and Pune Super Giants. His IPL statistics are impressive, with 1001 runs in 36 matches at a strike rate of 134.72 and an average of 37.07. As a bowler, he took 7 wickets with an economy of 7.41. It will be interesting to see how Pietersen’s experience and expertise translate to his new role as a mentor for the Delhi Capitals.

The Delhi Capitals have yet to win an IPL trophy, and this season, they’ll be looking to change that. The team has made some significant moves in the recent IPL auction, including acquiring wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul for a substantial amount. Rahul previously played for the Lucknow Super Giants, and there’s speculation that he might be appointed as the captain of the Delhi Capitals. Akshar Patel is also in the running for the captaincy. With these new developments, the Delhi Capitals are gearing up for a fresh start, and the addition of Pietersen as a mentor could be just the boost they need to turn their luck around.
